A few weeks ago for the Weekly Photo Challenge: One Shot Two Ways, I mentioned some mysteriously placed googly eyes on a lamp-post along Pollock Street in downtown New Bern, NC…
Recently, I was back in that area photographing my daughter and her fiance’ on James Reed Lane in front of Christ Episcopal Church.
I kept feeling like I was being watched.
I turned and noticed something on the wall above one of the benches.
More googly eyes!
Who is behind this giddy googly eye gluing?!
That did it, my husband and I decided to walk all over downtown looking for more googly eyes. We were determined to find more.
Sadly, we only saw one more pair.
This mystery is hilarious to me. Aside from the fact that I can’t say “googly eyes” without cracking a smile (can you?), this harmless artistic expression has piqued my interest. Who is the “tagger”? Adult, teenager, kid? Artist? Writer? Comic? Why are these eyes just placed along Pollock street (as far as I can tell). Do they glue at night or in broad daylight? Do they wear a costume covered in googly eyes?
So many unanswered questions….
